Phillips: Don´t stop believing

6 November 2013 09:58

Kevin Phillips has urged his Crystal Palace team-mates to "keep believing" as they battle for Premier League survival.

Palace have slumped to the foot of the table on their return to the top flight following an eight-year absence, taking just three points from their opening 10 matches.

Manager Ian Holloway stepped aside in late October but the club's losing run has been extended to seven league games under caretaker boss Keith Millen.

The Selhurst Park outfit have been relegated on each of their previous four seasons in the top flight, and Phillips has suffered the same fate on three occasions, but the 40-year-old striker intends to use that experience to help his team-mates.

"You've got to try and keep the spirits high," he said, in quotes reported by the Croydon Guardian. "I've been in many dressing rooms over the years where we've been scrapping relegation and you have to try and take that experience on board and pass it on.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves. There's still a long way to go. Yes, it's going to be a tough, tough struggle but you've got to keep believing."

Phillips, whose penalty in the play-off final against Watford secured Palace's Premier League berth, has failed to score this season.

Millen, who has spoken of the need to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible, will take charge of Saturday's home match against Everton.
