Oxlade-Chamberlain optimistic of Arsenal success

27 May 2013 12:25

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes Arsenal have a solid foundation to build on next season.

The London club endured another campaign without a trophy and failed to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

However, Arsene Wenger's men went on a ten-game unbeaten run at the end of the season and secured fourth place ahead of rivals Tottenham with a 1-0 final-day victory over Newcastle.

And England international Oxlade-Chamberlain believes the club can carry that form forward into 2013-14.

"At Arsenal Football Club we want to be challenging for titles first and foremost," he told Sky Sports News.

"But towards the back end of the season we realised that we weren't going to be able to do that so we set ourselves a new target to make sure we qualified for the Champions League, to make sure that Arsenal maintained its name at the highest level in Europe.

"It that sense, it was a success.

"The way we finished the season and the confidence we can take from that will stand us in good stead for the start of next season.

"I think we have come on in strides at the back end of this season and I think everyone is really buzzing and will be ready to go for pre-season and the start of next season."

Oxlade-Chamberlain featured in 25 Premier League games for Arsenal this season, contributing one goal.
