Lescott keen to move forward

25 May 2013 14:09

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is confident the club will quickly adapt to life without Roberto Mancini.

The Italian was sacked after failing to add to the 2011 FA Cup and 2012 Premier League trophies he won for the club, with Manuel Pellegrini the overwhelming favourite to take over at the Etihad Stadium.

City produced a lacklustre performance in their final Premier League fixture of the season as they fell to a 3-2 home defeat to Norwich.

But Lescott is confident the side will come back strongly.

"It's been a difficult for everyone but it is important as a player you understand that no matter what happens you need to keep striving to improve every games. We'll continue to do that.

"The decision has been made by the club and we have to respect that as players. We play for Man City. They have seen fit to part ways with Roberto and we have just got to get ourselves right for the new manager."

Lescott's season has not ended just yet, after he was called up to represent England in their friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

The 30-year-old has also been part of a City squad that has travelled to America in an end-of-season tour.

They came from 3-0 down to beat Chelsea 4-3 in St Louis on Thursday, and will look to add a second victory over the London side in New York on Saturday.

"It was not a competitive game in that sense, but it was entertaining which is what the fans want to see," Lescott added.

"It was good. It was a friendly atmosphere and I am sure we kept them entertained. You've got to finish the job off. That is what we are trying to do. We are representing Man City at the end of the day."
