Robben hails dominant Germany

24 May 2013 03:05

Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has lauded the quality of German football as his team prepares for the UEFA Champions League final.

Bayern will face Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in European football's biggest club match, the first time two German sides have made the final of the tournament.

Robben said the all-German Champions League final was a reflection of how far the country's football has improved in recent years.

"In general, I think we can say that the Bundesliga has developed really well and the teams are putting in superb performances," Robben said.

"It's not a coincidence that there are two German teams in the final.

"It could all be different next year or in two years' time though. That's why we have to seize the moment and win in the final this time round."

This is Bayern's third Champions League final in four seasons, after losses to Inter Milan and Chelsea in 2009/10 and 2011/12 respectively.

But having reclaimed the Bundesliga title from Dortmund this season by a massive 25 points, an elusive European crown would cap an incredible campaign for the Bavarians.

"It's the crowning moment," Robben said.

"If we win the title, we will have had a perfect season.

"That's what we're all working towards. We are completely focused on the final and nothing can stop us."

Recent history is certainly in Bayern's favour - they have not lost to Dortmund this season in four meetings, winning two and drawing the other two.
