Lambert ´proud´ of top-flight return

20 May 2013 14:21

Southampton's Rickie Lambert has expressed his pride at finishing the season as the joint-highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League.

The former Bristol Rovers striker has found the net 15 times in 38 appearances this season, with only Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard matching that total.

And having signed off his season with a goal in the club's 1-1 draw with Stoke City on Sunday, Lambert hailed a fine season for Southampton, on their return to the top-flight.

"I am proud – every goal means a lot," he told the club's official website.

"Playing in the Premier League has been a highlight, and I've playing against top players in every game so I've been lucky enough to score against them.

"It's been a good season for me personally, and for the boys it's been superb.

"Scoring in the Premier League has been my ambition for many years, so it's been nice.

"I feel like I could have scored more, but I will look back on it with happy memories. It's been a great season and we're looking forward to the next one."
