Ibrahimovic, Ancelotti land Ligue 1 honours

20 May 2013 00:32

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and manager Carlo Ancelotti both received accolades at the Ligue 1 awards on Sunday.

The Sweden international received the Player of the Year award, following an excellent campaign in which he inspired PSG to their first league title since 1994.

Ancelotti tied with Saint-Etienne head coach Christophe Galtier for Coach of the Year, while PSG's Salvatore Sirigu was given the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year.

Ibrahimovic has netted 34 goals in all competitions for the Parc des Princes outfit, with 29 of those coming in Ligue 1.

The 31-year-old's league total is the highest since Jean-Pierre Papin scored 30 for Marseille in the 1989-90 season, making him the obvious choice as the league's best player, as he edged team-mate Thiago Silva and and Saint-Etienne star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Bastia's on loan attacking midfielder Florian Thauvin – who is contracted to Lille - was awarded the Young Player of the Year award.
