Rodgers praises Carroll´s West Ham form

18 May 2013 16:18

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is pleased with the form Andy Carroll has shown while at West Ham.

The forward has been on loan at Upton Park since August, scoring seven goals and earning a recall to the England squad for the friendlies with Brazil and the Republic of Ireland.

And while Rodgers said he was pleased for the striker, he would not be drawn on his future.

"In terms of Andy, it has been good to see the bit of form he has shown now towards the end of the season," he said.

"He has obviously had a difficult season as a whole because of injury, so it's been a little bit frustrating.

"I suppose it's similar to last season, he showed that bit of form here at the end of last season and he's obviously shown that again at West Ham."

Carroll played regularly under former Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish but found himself out of favour with Rodgers, who was keen to move him on.

In the end, only a short-term deal could be agreed for Carroll but Rodgers agreed it was a good decision for him to leave the club and play more often.

"The idea for Andy to go out (on loan) was to get games; he wanted to play, he didn't want to be sat here playing second fiddle to anyone and I commend that because some players are happy to maybe sit on the bench and not play," he said.

"But he wanted to go out and play football. He's gone to West Ham, which is a great club, and under Sam Allardyce he's done very well. So we'll assess that at the end of the season and take it from there."
