Premier League Preview: Liverpool v QPR

17 May 2013 11:03

Queens Park Rangers will bid farewell to the Premier League at Anfield when they visit Liverpool on Sunday.

The only achievement possible for Harry Redknapp's charges heading into the final day is a minor chance of escaping bottom spot - as a win over Brendan Rodgers' team, combined with a Reading loss to West Ham, would see them into 19th spot and avoid the dreaded last place.

It would be mere consolation, of course, given the body blow of relegation - confirmed three games ago when they drew with fellow Championship side-to-be Reading - will still be felt at Loftus Road for some time to come.

Liverpool can gain nothing from the season finale - nor can they suffer - in terms of table position, although they have a gilt-edged chance to finish the season on an eight-match unbeaten streak should they avoid defeat.

QPR, however, haven't won since their 3-1 home triumph over Sunderland - enduring six losses and two draws in their past eight in a dire finish to their campaign.

And one has to go back to 1991 for QPR's last victory in front of The Kop - and they have picked up just one point from a possible 18 at the Merseyside ground since.

Further damaging QPR's hopes of a last-gasp victory to send them down to the Championship with a glimmer of optimism are the recent allegations and eventual arrest of striker Loic Remy.

Remy joined the London club in January, and almost proved to be their saviour with six goals in his attempts to save Rangers from the drop.

But the Frenchman's future at the club now rests in the hands of Scotland Yard - who are holding Remy as investigations continue.

Joining Remy in QPR's list of unavailable players are Julio Cesar (back), DJ Campbell (metatarsal), Adel Taarabt (shoulder) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (ankle).

Sidelined for Liverpool are Luis Suarez (suspended), Daniel Agger (back), Joe Allen (shoulder), Steven Gerrard (shoulder), Martin Kelly (knee) and Raheem Sterling (hip).
