Pardew: Future is out of my hands

11 May 2013 11:54

Alan Pardew has accepted his future as Newcastle United boss is out of his control as he battles to save the club from relegation.

Pardew has faced much criticism following a difficult campaign which has left the St James' Park outfit just three points clear of the bottom three with two games remaining.

Newcastle reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League this term but have not won in the Premier League since their elimination by Benfica.

The former West Ham boss conceded that Newcastle have underachieved and knows his job is on the line as they attempt to secure survival.

He told The Telegraph: "My job is to manage this football club with dignity, with an honesty, which I've done, not just with the players but with the press and more importantly with our fans. Hopefully it'll be good enough to keep my job next year.

"But that ultimate decision is not mine so we could get the points we need and (Newcastle owner) Mike (Ashley) could decide he needs to move to another manager. I like to think that he won't.

"We know we've got an uncomfortable conversation regarding the form this year, the underachievement that's been mentioned and everything else."

Injuries and Newcastle's commitments in Europe have hampered their performances this season and Pardew feels everyone at the club, including Ashley, is to blame for their current predicament.

"We've both underachieved. Him as an owner and me as a manager," Pardew added.

"We need to find out what the reasons were and then it's for Mike, and hopefully with me, to decide how to go forward. We have underachieved as a club."
