Samaras expects Lennon interest

10 May 2013 11:10

Celtic striker Georgios Samaras is not surprised Neil Lennon has been linked with the vacant manager's job at Everton.

The Merseyside club are seeking a replacement for David Moyes, who will leave Goodison Park in July to succeed Alex Ferguson as manager of Manchester United, and have reportedly added Lennon to their shortlist to fill Moyes' shoes.

And the Greek believes it is inevitable Lennon will be linked with other clubs due to the success he has had at Celtic Park, including back-to-back SPL titles and beating Barcelona in this season's UEFA Champions League.

"I haven't heard anything but all I can say is that when you are playing at a high level like the Champions League and doing well then for sure people will and watch the players or the manager or whoever is part of the team," Samaras said.

"That is normal. When you are doing well, people will come and watch you. But I don't know what he is thinking or what he wants to do."

The Greece international confirmed that he sees his own future at Celtic, with only Scott Brown has been with the club longer than Samaras, who joined the Scottish Premier League champions in 2008, but was non-committal over extending his contract, which has a year to run.

"I have one more of my contract and hopefully I will be here next season. Six years is a lot but it has gone so fast and when you feel good at the club, people are looking after you and you feel you are part of a big family, I cannot see a season leave," he added.

"But it is too soon to speak about a contract. When they are ready and I am ready then we will have a chat. But we have plenty of time, don't worry."
