Fernandes still hopeful over new stadium

10 May 2013 14:14

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes says the club will still go ahead with plans to build a new stadium, despite their Premier League relegation.

The London club will play next season in the Championship and it was thought that relocation plans would only go ahead if they remained in the top flight.

But Fernandes wants to leave Loftus Road in order to maximise matchday revenues, saying he will remain in the Hammersmith and Fulham region of London if possible.

"Wherever we go it will be somewhere fans believe is home- and there a are a few sites in mind," he said.

"It's too sensitive to say where, but you've got to take a risk.

"There are League One sides with grounds bigger than Loftus Road, and we've got to build a better facility than this.

"If I can keep QPR in Hammersmith and Fulham I will. Will I keep QPR in this (west London) area? I guarantee I will. There's not point moving away. We're not going to Milton Keynes."

Meanwhile, QPR manager Harry Redknapp says he is looking to add more discipline to the club next season and wants to make changes to his squad.

"If we get the good lads I want in here, they will improve the feeling about the place and the dressing room," Redknapp commented.

"I think change is needed. We need to freshen up the squad after a tough season. It's not going to be easy though. There needs to be changes made here in the summer if we're going to give it a real go next season."

"I want a disciplined football club next season and that's what I will have. Maybe we had to pussy-foot around players when I came in because of the situation this season.

"There will be a lot of things changing here over the summer. We'll have the players disciplined from the start."
