Baup calls for maximum effort

10 May 2013 16:11

Marseille manager Elie Baup says his team must play to their maximum potential for the remainder of the season.

Baup's side face Toulouse at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday and sit in second place in the Ligue 1 table, seven points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain with just three games remaining.

The 58-year-old has been pleased with his team's efforts in training and says it is immaterial that Marseille still have two home games to play as they look to seal second and possibly put pressure on PSG.

"We wanted to prepare well for the game, that's for sure," Baup said.

"We don't think about the fact that we are playing twice at home. We just need to be prepared. The finish line is close and we have to be ready. It's a good situation to play twice at home at the end of the season but it's not something to dwell on.

"We have worked well. (There has been) a lot of intensity at training, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, a lot of energy and commitment."

Despite their opponents occupying 10th place in the league, and seemingly with nothing to play for, Baup insists his side must not get complacent.

"Everyone has a challenge," he added.

"The final league positions have financial consequences. Every president obviously wants to finish as high as possible, whatever their situation is.

"Toulouse will play to win that's for sure. They are a good team, when we played them before the winter break they were fighting for the European spots.

"Their second half of the season was more difficult but they are definitely not a team to underestimate. They have the ability to end the season well, as they showed against Lille (in a 4-2 win)."
