Alex reveals PSG nerves

10 May 2013 19:44

Paris Saint-Germain defender Alex has admitted stress is affecting his side as they attempt to secure the Ligue 1 title.

PSG's lead at the top of the division was cut to seven points following their 1-1 draw with Valenciennes, in which centre-back Thiago Silva was sent off after an altercation with referee Alexandre Castro.

Carlo Ancelotti's men face UEFA Champions League-chasers Lyon on Sunday knowing they can secure the league crown with a win, and former Chelsea man Alex is eager for the Parc des Princes outfit to recover from last weekend's setback.

"The last two games have been very stressful for us, but we have the experience to bounce back and forget about it. We want to achieve our goal: the title," he said.

"It will be difficult because Lyon want to qualify for the Champions League, so we know that it will not be easy.

"We are aware of the difficulties ahead, b
ut we will be very focused and we will do everything to quickly get into the game and clinch victory."

Alex also praised the influence of Thiago Motta, with the midfielder returning from a three-match ban at the Stade de Gerland.

PSG will be without Silva, Marco Verratti, David Beckham and Salvatore Sirigu because of suspension, but Alex believes the return of midfielder Motta provides the league leaders with a timely boost.

He added: "The presence of Thiago Motta is very important because he knows how to organise the game and he brings a big contribution to our football. The team needs him in midfield.

"We are of course delighted that he can participate in the upcoming matches to help us achieve our goal."

Alex said the squad was growing anxious over the future of Ancelotti, with rampant speculation he will leave the club at season end.

"I don't know if he (Ancelotti) received any proposal (from Real Madrid), I know him very well, but we don't talk about this subject," Alex said.

"I'm lost about this and everything that I know was from the press.

"All the players are anxious but he didn't speak about this with anyone."
