Alex Ferguson´s career in numbers

8 May 2013 12:55

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson revealed on Wednesday that he is set to retire from football at the end of the season.

The Scot has enjoyed unprecedented success at the Old Trafford club, becoming the most decorated manager in English football history since taking the reins in 1986.

Here, we look at the numbers behind the 71-year-old's storied career at the summit.

1500 - Ferguson's final game - against West Brom on Sunday May 19 - will be his 1500th in charge of United.

10 - Just 10 managers have managed an English club for longer than Ferguson. Fred Everiss' 48-year reign at West Brom is the longest in history and will likely never be beaten.

3 - Ferguson has broken the British transfer record on three occasions as United boss. Andy Cole (7 million pounds) Juan Sebastian Veron (28 million pounds) and Rio Ferdinand (30 million pounds) have all joined United for record-breaking sums. Cristiano Ronaldo left United for 80 million pounds in 2009, the last time the mark was set.

75 - United have won 304 of their 404 Premier League home matches under Ferguson, a win rate of 75 percent.

65 - Ferguson's win percentage in the Premier League is 65 percent. The only manager with a better ratio from 20 or more top-flight fixtures is one of the men linked with replacing the Scot, Jose Mourinho (70 percent).

38 - United have won 38 major honours under Ferguson, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and 2 UEFA Champions Leagues.

49 - The number of trophies won by Ferguson in his career with St Mirren, Aberdeen and United is greater than any other British manager in history.

1 - He is the only manager to finish in the English top-flight's top three places for 20 consecutive seasons (from 1991-92 to now).

9691 - Ferguson's last match in charge will come 9691 days on from his arrival at the club on November 6 1986.

624 - He has won a record number of English top-flight games as a manager.
