Riise ends Norway career

7 May 2013 20:11

Fulham defender John Arne Riise has retired from international football after earning 110 caps for Norway.

Riise, 32, ends his career with the Norwegian national team as the country's most-capped player.

The left-back, who made his debut against Iceland in 2000, has made the decision in a bid to concentrate on his club football instead.

"After a lot of thought I've decided not to continue with international football," Riise said.

"I am going into the final stage of my career and I'm at an age where I have to take a clear decision if I want to achieve my final goal, to play another four or five years in Europe."

Riise – who plays his club football for Fulham – has made 29 Premier League appearances this season.

Norway are currently fourth in Group E of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, with five matches to play.
