Higdon arrested after Player of the Year win

6 May 2013 12:16

Motherwell striker Michael Higdon has been arrested hours after receiving an award from the Scottish Professional Footballers' Association.

Higdon, who has scored 27 goals in 42 appearances this season, scooped the SPFA Player of the Year award at a ceremony in Glasgow on Sunday.

But the Liverpool-born forward was subsequently detained over an incident at the Corinthian nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 29-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with an alleged assault at a nightclub in Ingram Street in Glasgow at 01:25 today."

Higdon has helped fire Motherwell to second place in the Scottish Premier League this season, with Stuart McCall's side having already confirmed their qualification for the UEFA Europa League.

The Fir Park outfit will seal their best league finish since the 1994-95 campaign should they beat Ross County on Sunday.
