Premier League Preview: Manchester City v West Brom

5 May 2013 13:53

Manchester City will look to gain momentum ahead of the FA Cup final when they take on West Brom in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Roberto Mancini's side may have already lost the Premier League title

to city rivals Manchester United, but they can all-but secure second place by overcoming a team who head into this game on the back of a dramatic

3-2 defeat to Wigan on Saturday.

City, meanwhile, laboured to a goalless draw with mid-table

Swansea City and will hope to improve in attack against West Brom.

Mancini will be able to call on a near full-strength

squad, with Maicon and Jack Rodwell the only real fitness concerns for the deposed

champions.

West Brom, meanwhile, will once again be without striker Marc-Antoine Fortune

through suspension, while Chris Brunt and Goran Popov remain doubts after

missing the defeat to Wigan. They may again join long-term absentees

Zoltan Gera and George Thorne on the sidelines.

Defeat against relegation-threatened Wigan made it just one

win in six for Steve Clarke's men and confidence is likely to be low ahead of their visit to a ground where they have not won since 2003.

Mancini's side edged to victory in the reverse fixture back

in October with Edin Dzeko scoring a double, including a late winner as City came

from behind to secure the points with a 2-1 win.

They will be looking for a less dramatic encounter

this time around, and Mancini will be hoping that top scorer Dzeko (12 league

goals) and fellow forwards Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez (both with 11) can fire them to a comfortable victory.

However, the City defence will also have to be at their best

if they are to nullify Romelu Lukaku. The Chelsea loanee has been in fantastic

form for West Brom, scoring 14 times in the Premier League this season, and he

will likely be the focal point of the visitors' attack once again.
