Moyes calls on Fellaini to produce derby heroics

4 May 2013 15:10

Everton manager David Moyes believes Marouane Fellaini can play a big role in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

The Belgian midfielder has produced important performances so far this season in big games including during the win over Manchester United and draws against Arsenal and Manchester City.

Moyes is now calling on Fellaini to show his class again as his side take on their nearest rivals, with both clubs still in with a shout of European qualification.

Speaking about Fellaini, Moyes said: "He’s been better in all the big games. Let’s hope he does it again.

"He has been playing well at this moment in time and more of the same would go down nicely."

Speaking about the derby, Moyes feels that while recent games have been more open, it will still be a hotly-contested clash.

"The games [between the clubs] have got a bit more open," he said.

"You don’t get

allowed to tackle as much as you used to in the past but I can still see

it being competitive. You would expect that from this sort of game.

"I hope we get a good game and I think both teams are in decent form."

While the fans of the two clubs may not exchange too many pleasantries, given the fierce rivalry, Moyes is complimentary about the job his counterpart Brendan Rodgers is doing at Anfield.

"They have brought in some young players and they are trying to build for

the long-term and a young team in the future," he said.

"I think Brendan has done a

good job."
