Mancini plays down Manchester City exit talk

4 May 2013 13:20

Roberto Mancini has slammed speculation linking other managers with his job at Manchester City.

The City manager won the Premier League last season and has also won the FA Cup and Community Shield for owner Sheikh Mansour during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

However, poor player purchases last summer and a patchy defence of the title that included strange early team selections has sparked talk of his exit.

Reports that the agent of Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini dined with City director of football Txiki Begiristain in Madrid this week have also not helped his cause.

Former Inter Milan boss Mancini said: "I hope that he had a good dinner! I think this is not true, but if he went I don't have any problem.

"In general, in the last six months, you have written everything.

"You started six or seven months ago with Pep (Guardiola), (Jose) Mourinho, Pellegrini, (Carlo) Ancelotti and Brendan Rodgers.

"I have four years (left on my) contract. I know that I work with serious people, like (chairman) Khaldoon (Al Mubarak) and (owner) Sheikh Mansour.

"I think that if there was another manager who won three trophies in three years you would say nothing about this manager.

"I don't know why you, in general, continue to ask or say these things."

In terms of whether Al Mubarak has spoken with him at all about his future, Mancini added: "Never, never. We don't have to talk about this.

"We don't have any problems about this. We have a good relationship."
