Adkins calls for final flourish from Reading

3 May 2013 21:58

Reading manager Nigel Adkins has called on his players to put relegation behind them and finish the season strongly.

After 10 games without a win. Reading's goalless draw with QPR last weekend confirmed their drop into the Championship, having only collected five wins and 25 points this season.

However, Adkins, who has been in charge for just five games, has challenged his side to put the disappointment behind them and look to start their preparations for next season with better performances in their final three matches, starting with a trip to Fulham.

"Anyone who knows me will tell you I want to win every game of football that we play in," he said.

"The players have worked hard on the training ground, we've got over last week and there's a hunger and desire to keep improving."

Over the past three months, Reading have taken just two points out of a possible 33, a run of form that saw them drop to the foot of the table, but Adkins remains positive and is keen for his players to relax and try and get back to winning ways before the end of the current campaign.

"We've got three games left in this campaign and we've got to do everything we can to give ourselves an opportunity to get that winning feeling again," he added.

"We want to adapt the way we play throughout the football club. We want to get the ball and move the ball but also play effective, winning football."
