Osman eager for Anfield triumph

1 May 2013 11:48

Leon Osman has spoken of his desire to help Everton secure a long-awaited victory at Liverpool when the two teams meet on Sunday.

Everton have not beaten their neighbours at Anfield since a 1-0 triumph way back in 1999 and Osman is keen for David Moyes' side to bring that run winless run to a halt.

The Goodison Park outfit sit five points clear of Liverpool with three games to go - on course to finish above Liverpool for the second consecutive campaign - and Osman believes he and his team-mates will approach the clash knowing they have the ability to take all three points.

He told The Daily Post: "It's certainly something we need to put right. It's a long time since we've gone over there and come back with three points.

"It's a place we need to go to and win. We've shown we can win at Goodison Park, but we want to go there and win.

"If we knew (why Everton have a poor record at Anfield), we'd have put it right a few years ago.

"It's a game like any other. It's a derby at their place and we'll go there full of the confidence that we've got this year. We're above them in the league and we'll go there to try to win the game."

Everton fans will be desperate for their side to secure local pride but Osman insisted keeping pace in the battle for European football will be their main motivation ahead of the game.

"We're five points above them at the minute and a win would certainly be great for us," he added. "But we're still on the coat-tails of the teams above us and we're trying to win for that reason as well."
