Wenger not worried by rivals´ results

30 March 2013 19:52

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says his side is not worried by what is going on around them as they fight for fourth place in the Premier League.

The Gunners are in fifth spot, two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, after their thumping 4-1 win at home over Reading on Saturday.

The victory was powered by goals from Gervinho, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and was completed by a late penalty from Mikel Arteta.

Wenger, however, said the side is keen not to get too distracted by the race for the Champions League as the season enters the business end.

"We are focused just on winning our games," he told Sky Sports.

"We have a clear target, we don't need to look around us because at the moment we are still behind. We just want to win our games."

Wenger praised Ivorian attacker Gervinho, who scored his second goal in three games and set up two others on Saturday.

"He is what you want from a striker, dangerous, he scored and gave assists," Wenger said.

"The only regret is that he had a few more chances to score, but you cannot fault his performance today, he was absolutely outstanding.

"It was a good performance. Technically sound, serious, always focused and a very creative performance as well because we created many shots and chances - that is what you want."

New Reading boss Nigel Adkins said he would look to learn from his first game in charge of the club, and said making sure his team - who are bottom of the Premier League - are ready for next week's crunch clash with Southampton is vital.

"The Emirates is a challenging place to come to, I thought Arsenal were excellent today. They passed the ball about very well," Adkins said.

"Obviously we've had a bit of a fragmented week with the things that have gone on.

"We'll analyse the game, we'll learn the lessons from it, we'll debrief it Monday and Tuesday and we'll get ourselves ready for the next game.

"I think that's the most important thing we've got to go and do now."
