Terry backs rotation policy

17 March 2013 13:01

Chelsea captain John Terry says Rafael Benitez's rotation policy is right despite conceding he would like to play more.

The defender has only featured intermittently under the new manager and missed out on recent games against Manchester City and Manchester United.

Terry, who last featured in the English Premier League at the beginning of February, believes Chelsea's busy fixture list makes changes to the starting 11 unavoidable.

"I've not played in as many games as I've liked, but when I train, I remain fully focused and give everything so when I do get a chance like against Steaua Bucharest, I'm fit and ready to go for the team," he told the Daily Mail.

"That's the same for everyone. There will be lots of players who are going to be upset by not playing but realise there's an awful lot of games coming up and we must remain focused for the club.

"It's going to be tough now because when we come back from the international break we play Southampton, then (Manchester) United (in the FA Cup). The build-up of fixtures means we could play the most games ever in a season I think."

Terry was keen to see Chelsea continue to progress in the Europa League while balancing their desire to win trophies with their need to remain in the Premier League top four.

"It's not a bad thing though," he said of the run of games.

"We were disappointed to go out of the Champions League but the Europa League is the next best thing and we've always said right from the word go we're in it to win it.

"We all want to win things. The league, realistically, we don't have a chance of winning but we have to fight for a Champions League spot because we know how much it means to the owner and the fans and they are the most important thing to me."
