Myhill inks new West Brom deal

12 March 2013 20:53

West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has pledged his future to the Midlands club, penning a new two-year deal with the option of a year's extension.

The Wales international has provided back up for Ben Foster this season and performed well when called upon.

Injury to Foster saw Myhill feature in seven consecutive league games during November and December which included successive wins against Wigan, Chelsea and Sunderland and a clean sheet versus West Ham.

Myhill spent last season on loan at Birmingham, playing 47 times for the Championship club, but it appears he will be staying put at West Brom for the foreseeable future after signing a deal that runs until June 2016.

West Brom’s sporting and technical director Richard Garlick praised Myhill’s contribution on the club's official website.

"We've seen this season it is important to have a good number two. Boaz has definitely contributed to our success and stepped up to the plate when Ben Foster was injured," he said.

"In the Barclays Premier League it is vital you have a number two you can trust in but also a number two that can push your number one.

"Everyone at the club has faith in both of them and, with Luke Daniels, we've got a good set of three keepers who push each other in training and have a good understanding with each other.

"It is testament to the work Dean Kiely has done that we have such a strong unit where all the keepers are happy to support each other no matter who is playing."
