Championship: Burnley 0 Hull City 1

Hull City have moved to second in the Championship after a 1-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday.

Irish midfielder Stephen Quinn scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute.

Quinn was lively throughout the match and nearly gave Hull the lead inside the opening 60 seconds, heading wide David Meyler's pinpoint cross.

On-loan Fulham winger Alexander Kacaniklic had Burnley's best chance of the first half, flashing a shot wide after a scramble in the penalty area.

A speculative 30-yard strike from Ross Wallace was the first effort to test Hull goalkeeper David Stockdale, who made a full-stretch save to deny the Scot.

Hull's Egyptian striker Gedo nearly scored the game's opener just after restart but Burnley custodian Lee Grant was smart enough to cover his near post and clear for a corner.

Minutes later, substitute Sam Vokes was inches away from scoring for the home side with his first touch of the match, his header from six yards bouncing just wide.

But Jay Simpson's cross was met by Quinn on 66 minutes, who calmly finished past Grant.

Burnley remain in 11th position after the loss, while Hull will be buoyed by moving into the automatic promotion places, just three points behind top side Cardiff, who have played two matches fewer than Steve Bruce's men.
