Hibernian have been denied their first Scottish Premier League home win this year after a 0-0 draw against Hearts in the Edinburgh derby.

With 15 minutes remaining at Easter Road on Sunday, Hibernian's Leigh Griffiths smashed a free-kick in off the bar but after the ball bounced back out the referee waved play on, denying the home side a goal.

The decision ensured the Edinburgh derby finished goalless and means Hibernian are still to record their first SPL victory at Easter Road this year.

Hibernian's last win at home came on December 29 when they knocked off league leaders Celtic 1-0.

Hearts could also consider themselves unlucky to have missed out on victory having had some of the better chances of the match.

Despite Hibs controlling the majority of possession in the first half, it was Hearts who had the best chance before the break, as Daniel Wilson got onto the end of a free-kick from Arvydas Novikovas, but he could not direct his effort beyond Ben Williams.

Hearts skipper Andy Webster produced one of the best strikes of the game on the hour mark, picking the ball up on the edge of the box and smashing a volley, which Williams did well to palm away.

The visiting fans were livid with 20 minutes remaining on the clock as Callum Tapping was pushed to the ground in the box by Hibernian defender Alan Maybury but the referee ignored the complaints.

But despite Hearts' good opportunities, the hosts produced the best moment of the match through Griffiths and will be fuming the match officials failed to see the striker's free-kick clearly bounced behind the line.
