Celtic defend themselves after criticism from Wanyama´s agent

26 June 2013 12:40

Celtic have insisted that negotiations with Victor Wanyama have been conducted with “integrity” following criticism from the player’s agent.

His representative, Ivan Modia, insisted on Tuesday that the player would not be forced into a move that was not right for him after Celtic agreed a fee with Southampton without the player's terms being met.

"The player will not be forced into a corner to accept the Southampton deal, just because it is good for Celtic. Remember, he has been with the club for two years now - without a pay rise - and has given them wonderful service ever since he arrived," he told Sky Sports.

The Scottish Premier League side have moved to deny any wrongdoing, with their spokesperson claiming that the negotations were all well above board.

"These negotiations, like any others, are carried out by Celtic in a proper, private and professional manner," the spokesperson said.

"Celtic carries out its business with integrity, we work to the highest standards and in the interests of the club, our supporters and indeed our players. We do not need to comment any further on this matter."

Wanyama's future is unclear, with the Kenya international also attracting interest from Premier League newcomers Cardiff City.
