Hamburg a possibility for Santa Cruz

18 June 2013 10:47

Roque Santa Cruz's agent has confirmed that Hamburg are well placed to bring the striker to the Bundesliga.

The 31-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Manchester City came to an end.

The Paraguayan spent the 2012-13 campaign on loan at Spanish outfit Malaga, scoring 12 goals in 45 appearances.

However, the former Blackburn Rovers forward is no stranger to German football, having spent much of his career with Bavarian giants Bayern Munich.

Santa Cruz won five Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League crown in his time with Bayern between 1999 and 2007, and his agent Jan van Baal has confirmed that his client would be tempted by a move to Hamburg.

"The opportunity is there for Hamburg," he told Bild. "Roque had a great time in Germany.

"In recent years, Roque has often moved shortly before the end of the transfer window. This time that will not be so."

Talks are reportedly continuing over the possibility of a two-year deal with the Imtech Arena club, who recently lost striker Son Heung-Min to Bayer Leverkusen.

And Hamburg's sporting director Oliver Kreuzer intimated that they have already spoken about wages with Santa Cruz.

"We have already talked about numbers," Kreuzer confirmed.
