Hull sign Figueroa

17 June 2013 12:57

Hull City have confirmed the signing of defender Maynor Figueroa on a free transfer.

Honduras international Figueroa joins the newly-promoted Premier League club as a free agent after he left Wigan following a five-year stay at the DW Stadium.

The full-back was a key-part of the Wigan side that got to last season's FA Cup final - although he did not take part in the 1-0 final success over Manchester City - but could not prevent the club from suffering relegation to the Championship.

Figueroa was signed by then Wigan manager Steve Bruce in 2008, and the 30-year-old has opted to rejoin his old boss, moving to the KC Stadium on a two-year deal.

"I'm happy to be here and to be a part of the club," Figueroa told Hull's official website.

"It is a big challenge for me, but it's certainly one I'm looking forward to.

"When the team were playing the final few games in the Championship, I paid close attention to the results because I wanted Steve Bruce to achieve promotion. I was happy for him to earn the success. He is a great manager, and I'm looking forward to working with him again.

"I watched the Cardiff game (when Hull won promotion), and after the final whistle, I turned to my wife and said, 'Hull could be an option for me next year'."

Figueroa made 41 appearances for Wigan last season, scoring three goals.
