Colombia Primera Division Wrap: Santa Fe held as Pasto, Millonarios win
Reigning Primera Division Apertura champions Santa Fe claimed a 1-1 draw at Deportivo Cali in the last eight of the competition on Sunday.
Santa Fe beat Deportivo Pasto in last year's Apertura final and Wilson Gutierrez's men are among the favourites for the 2013 title after sealing their place in the quarter-finals by finishing top of the league in the regular season.
And things looked to be going to plan for the Bogota-based club in their first Group A quarter-final match when striker Jefferson Cuero Castro put them ahead in the 11th minute at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero.
However, Miguel Angel Murillo dented their hopes with an injury-time equaliser to give Deportivo Cali a valuable point.
Last year's beaten finalists Deportivo Pasto - who snuck into the 2013 quarter-finals by finishing eighth in the league stage - got their Group B campaign off to a better start with a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over Atletico Nacional, also on Sunday.
Midfielder Fram Pacheco was the hero at the Estadio Departamental Libertad, as he struck a 91st-minute winner after Macnelly Torres had drawn the visitors level following Mauricio Mina's opener.
Elsewhere, 2012 Clausura champions Millonarios laid down a marker of their credentials with a 4-2 win over Once Caldas at the Estadio Nemesio Camacho on Saturday.
Eduardo Moreno put the hosts ahead after 34 minutes, but Jandell Ramos pulled Once Caldas level soon after.
Mayer Candelo restored Millonarios' advantage shortly after half-time, and forward Wason Renteria appeared to have made the points safe for the home side in the 68th minute.
Cesar Arias pulled a goal back for Once Caladas but Pedro Franco stepped in to seal the victory, and Millionarios' place at the top of Group A.
Meanwhile, striker Yimmi Chara's double helped Deportes Tolima take an early lead in Group B as they won 3-1 at Itagui on Sunday.
Chara's goals sandwiched a strike from Itagui's Jorge Aguirre, before midfielder David Mackalister Silva sealed an important win for the visitors in the 69th minute.
