Son snubbed Dortmund for Leverkusen

Heung-Min Son snubbed joining Borussia Dortmund in favour of what he hopes will be more first-team football at Bayer Leverkusen.

The South Korean striker had the choice of joining both clubs from fellow Bundesliga side Hamburg, but the 20-year-old insists it was an easy decision to make in reality.

Son caught the eye last season with 12 goals and is relishing starting his Leverkusen career after signing on a five-year deal early this week.

He said: "I wanted to stay in the Bundesliga and Leverkusen and Dortmund wanted me.

"Both teams play in the Champions League but I thought Dortmund would use rotation more than Leverkusen.

"That's why I chose Leverkusen over Dortmund. It's really important to play regularly in my age.

"Any player would want to play in the big games in the Champions League. I know there will still be plenty of competition at Leverkusen and I will prepare for the season well and try to put in good performances when it begins."
