Whitmore leaves Jamaica role

13 June 2013 20:01

Theodore Whitmore has resigned his position as manager of Jamaica, after a series of poor results.

The former Hull City and Tranmere midfielder made the decision following Jamaica's 2-0 loss to Honduras on Tuesday, which leaves them rooted to the bottom of their FIFA World Cup qualifying group.

That defeat followed losses against the United States and Mexico, with Jamaica sitting six points adrift of an automatic qualification spot after six games.

"Following a meeting, coach Whitmore took the decision to tender his resignation," Jamaica Football Federation president Horace Burell said.

"A coach's tenure depends on the results. Admittedly, the results over the past months have not been good.

"Hence I have, without any reservation accepted coach Whitmore's resignation."

Whitmore, who appeared for Jamaica at the 1998 World Cup, has seen his side score just one goal in six fixtures of their qualifying group.

And though they are not mathematically eliminated, it is highly unlikely they will secure a place at the 2014 World Cup.
