Parish wants Phillips to stay at Palace

13 June 2013 19:38

Crystal Palace are keen for Kevin Phillips to sign a contract extension to keep him at the newly-promoted Premier League club.

The former England international, who is due to turn 40 in July, scored the penalty in extra-time that secured top-flight football at Selhurst Park for the first time since 2005 during last month's play-off final win over Watford.

Co-chairman Steve Parish wants the former Blackpool striker to continue for at least one more season for Ian Holloway's side.

"He's someone we feel could still do a job in the Premier League if we can come to some agreement with him and he is happy to be down in the south of England for another year," Parish told the South London Press.

"Kevin is a super professional and we know he wouldn't make a decision to stay if he wasn't going to give his all."

Phillips proved to be a valuable signing for Palace last season, as he scored six goals in 14 appearances in the Championship.

The 39-year-old has had a stalwart career in English football, appearing in the top flight for the likes of Sunderland, Southampton and Aston Villa.
