Perez confident of keeping Ronaldo

12 June 2013 11:16

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the club despite interest from Manchester United and Monaco.

Ronaldo has averaged a goal a game since arriving at the club in 2009 from United and was the driving force asMadrid broke the dominance of Barcelona by winning the La Liga title in 2011-12.

He has continued to be an influential figure within the side this term, but in September Ronaldo announced he was unhappy in the Spanish capital, and speculation began to mount that he may leave the club at the end of the season.

With manager Jose Mourinho departing for Chelsea following a trophy-less campaign, the future of Ronaldo has again come under the spotlight as some of Europe's big spenders reportedly line up hefty bids for the Portugal international.

Newly promoted Monaco are the latest club linked with the 28-year-old and the Ligue 1 side are said to be preparing a bid of 85 million pounds, but Perez is adamant that his star player will not be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 66-year-old president is preparing an offer of his own for Ronaldo that could see him earn 250,000 pounds a week over the next five years, and is confident he can fend off interest from elsewhere.

"I would bet Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid because it's the natural thing," he said. "We will negotiate the new contract before the start of La Liga and I am convinced that everything will come out well.

"To renew Cristiano before the start of the season is my desire and my ambition. We all want that he retires at Real Madrid. We will do everything possible to make it happen."
