Martinez planning Neville future talks

12 June 2013 18:59

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has revealed he plans to speak with retiring captain Phil Neville regarding his future plans.

Neville, who has formed part of Stuart Pearce's England Under-21 coaching team at the UEFA European Championships, announced his intention to retire from playing last week.

He has subsequently been linked with taking up a coaching role under his former Everton manager David Moyes at Manchester United, but Martinez says he will seek clarification from the 36-year-old.

The Spaniard told the club's official website: "I think Phil Neville is an Everton icon and I think he can bring a lot into his time as a coach.
"I really want to speak with him and see how he feels about his future."

Neville joined Everton from United in 2005 and went on to make over 300 appearances for the Merseyside club.

After revealing his retirement plans, the former England international admitted uncertainty over what his next move would be.

"I have got two paths - one to go into the media, the other to go into coaching and management. I have got offers from both. I will sit down at the end of the (Under-21) tournament," he said.
