Osieck spoilt for selection choices

10 June 2013 07:55

Australia coach Holger Osieck says having all 26 members of his squad fit for their World Cup qualifier against Jordan is a nice problem to have.

The Socceroos are in desperate need of a win in Melbourne on Tuesday if they are to overhaul Oman and move into second place in AFC World Cup Qualifying Group B, while Jordan are level with Australia on seven points in the race for a place at Brazil in 2014.

With Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak having overcome an ankle injury, Osieck has a full squad at his disposal for the match and the German tactician did not rule out making changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Japan in Saitama last week.

"In football you should never look back, the only thing you get from a look back is a sore neck. I look ahead - Jordan is a different game," Osieck said at Etihad Stadium on Monday.

"The good thing is, everybody in our squad is ready to play so it's a good situation, but a tough one for me as well.

"The spirit is very positive and everybody is really very supportive."

Osieck said the team was delighted to be back in Australia for their final two qualifiers, with the campaign concluding against Iraq in Sydney next Tuesday.

"A very important event is ahead of us. We're going now into the final two games of our qualifying campaign," Osieck said.

"You all know from the table, from the standings that for both teams there's a lot at stake.

"At least we are happy to be back in Australia. It's an important one, which we definitely will have to win and I'm pretty confident we're going to have a good game tomorrow.

"It was a very clear thing from minute one that this qualifying campaign would be a very tough one, and referring to our starting schedule it made it even more difficult.

"But I think we are still in a position that we can manage the situation based on our own strength and that is always a very positive one, rather than depend on other results."
