Schweinsteiger hungry for more success

9 June 2013 15:25

Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger insists he is eager to earn more silverware, after completing the treble with the club.

The Germany international was a key member of the team that brought home the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League titles, a feat that had never before been achieved in Germany.

And with the imminent arrival of Pep Guardiola to the club, Schweinsteiger is confident of achieving more success.

"My title hunger has increased by winning the title, not decreased," he said in Bild am Sonntag.

"It is certainly very good for the self-confidence. We will go into the new season with our heads held high.

"We have a world-class coach arriving and I'm definitely excited, but we start all over again under Pep Guardiola and the past counts for little."

Despite the club's success, and their 7-0 aggregate destruction of Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, the 28-year-old believes they are not yet the best side in the world.

He also claimed the penalty loss to Chelsea in the 2012 Champions League final proved the catalyst for success last season.

"In my eyes Barcelona are still number one in Europe," he added.

"They have been incredibly consistent in Europe for the past six years. We cannot claim just after winning one big title that we are now number one in Europe.

"I can still remember all of the sad faces of players in the dressing room (after the Chelsea defeat).

"From that we developed spirit, which we have benefited from this season and we are going to benefit even more from it in the future.

"We know each other better now and we have built up mechanisms, like Barcelona, where everything works in perfect harmony.

"One cog turns the other. We are going to see even more of that with Bayern in the future."
