Balotelli blasts dismissal in Czech draw

8 June 2013 05:03

Mario Balotelli has taken to Twitter to vent his frustration following his sending off in Italy's World Cup qualifier versus Czech Republic.

Italy were held to a scoreless draw by Czech Republic on Friday but the match was much more memorable for Balotelli's four minutes of madness as he received two yellow cards and then responded to his sending off by punching and kicking the wall of the tunnel to the changerooms.

Following the draw, which sent Italy four points clear at the top of UEFA's Group B of World Cup qualifying, Balotelli published a cryptic tweet, which clearly showed his frustration but was otherwise difficult to decipher.

"Write whatever you want, but in the Confederations Cup cheer for another nation," Balotelli wrote, translated from his native Italian.

"I tell you that from my HEART. (And watch the game again. ALL OF IT.)"

Italy's head coach Cesare Prandelli admitted after the game that he had planned to substitute Balotelli after the first yellow card was shown but could not get it done in time.

"Balotelli has to learn how to accept situations and he needs to grow in that sense," Prandelli said.

"We will drum that message into him.

"I was going to substitute him but I didn't have time."

Balotelli's first yellow card came in the 68th minute for a clumsy barge into the back of Czech defender Michal Kadlec and four minutes later he was sent off after a second booking after making slight contact with the head of Theodor Gebre Selassie as they both attempted to win a header.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon argued the 22-year-old AC Milan striker was unfortunate to receive the second yellow card.

"He was unlucky, as it was a mid-air collision that happens many times and I think the booking was harsh, especially considering he was carded a few minutes earlier," Buffon said.

"It was a foul but a second yellow for that is excessive.

"His angry reaction was down to his disappointment, nothing more."
