Klopp: Weidenfeller the best in the world

2 June 2013 11:36

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has lauded Roman Weidenfeller as the best goalkeeper in the world.

The 32-year-old made 47 appearances for the Westfalenstadion outfit in 2012-13, helping them to the UEFA Champions League final and second place in the Bundesliga.

And Klopp believes his keeper's performances over that period have singled him out as the number one shot-stopper in world football.

"I do not know the rules according to which a decision is made (on the world's best goalkeeper)," he said.

"But this year he was the best goalkeeper in the world. That is so."

Dortmund conceded 42 league goals this season while Manuel Neuer shipped just 18 with Bayern Munich, but Klopp does not see this as the deciding factor in terms of goalkeeping quality.

"Despite this number, it is difficult to find any real errors," he added.

Weidenfeller joined Dortmund on a free transfer in 2002, and has since made 312 outings for the club.
