Pardew pushes for Gomis signature

25 July 2013 10:31

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has urged the club's hierarchy to push through a deal for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

The St James' Park outfit are the only Premier League side yet to make a senior signing this close-season, while a number of first-team players have left.

The likes of Danny Simpson and James Perch have both moved on, and Pardew is now urging the board, and director of football Joe Kinnear, to make the French striker's signature a priority.

"Gomis is a player who would suit us, and we should pursue it as strongly as we can," Pardew told The Daily Mirror.

Gomis, who scored 16 goals in 37 games last season, has just one year left to run on his current contract with the French club and has previously stated his desire for a move.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, with the 29-year-old confirming to supporters earlier this week that he is likely to leave Villa Park.
