SPFL confirms league names

24 July 2013 18:02

The new Scottish Professional Football League unveiled its league names on Wednesday.

The SPFL was formed following a merger between the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League in June.

And the new organisation today confirmed the top-flight will be called the Scottish Premiership, with the second tier being rebranded the Scottish Championship.

Meanwhile, the third and fourth levels will go by the name Scottish League One and Scottish League Two.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster hailed the progress being made, but said there is still much more to do before the league programme begins next month.

"A mountain of work has been done over the summer to get to this point and I believe there is much more that can be done," he told Sky Sports.

"The new league set-up reflects very much the recommendations Henry McLeish made in his report for the future of Scottish Football."
