Norwich City striker Luciano Becchio hopes that his first goal for the club will help him in his bid to become a Premier League regular.
The 29-year-old Argentinian signed for Norwich from Leeds United in January after making a stunning start to the Championship season.
Becchio scored 20 goals in 31 appearances for Leeds but failed to hit the back of the net in his eight Premier League appearances for Norwich, of which he started just two.
Becchio will have to battle the club's record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel for a regular starting berth, but hopes to have made his claim for selection after scoring in Norwich's 3-0 win over Dorados de Sinaloa of Mexico.
"Of course I am happy to score my first goal for Norwich but it is pre-season, no, I want to score in the league and I want to keep playing in the league," Becchio said.
"I don't know what the gaffer thinks but I am ready for the opportunity.
"I can play in the Premier League. Why not? I can score some goals at this level to help Norwich stay in the Premier League.
"It is now better for me that I have this pre-season, I am starting the season with the rest of the lads.
"We are all together from the first day. It was difficult for me when I first came to Norwich. It was halfway through the season and I had to get used to a new team and new players. I was on the bench a lot and that was difficult."
Becchio's goal was a trademark header, which came thanks to an excellent Robert Snodgrass cross.
Snodgrass and Becchio were team-mates for four years at Leeds and fellow Norwich players Bradley Johnson and Jonny Howson also came from Elland Road.
And Becchio said his goal came thanks to his understanding of Snodgrass' game, and is hopeful of scoring several more goals thanks to the assistance of his former Leeds colleagues.
"I know Robert. I played with him for years so I know his crosses and everything about his game," he said.
"The goal I scored in this game is what my strength is. I like to wait in the box for some crosses and chances on the goal."
