Inter manager Walter Mazzarri is confident his side will perform better in Serie A this season.
The 51-year-old left his post as Napoli manager to replace Andrea Stramaccioni at the club, after he paid the price for a disappointing ninth-place finish.
But the new boss has been impressed by the players’ efforts and believes he has inherited a side well capable of improving their league position.
"I haven't had individual chats with all the lads yet but they've exceeded my expectations. They're determined to bounce back," Mazzarri said.
"I prefer action to words. I get the impression these players are going to give me everything they've got.
"I'm not coming out and making any grand statements of intent. I want to build an Inter team that has a soul and an identity.
"As you all know very well, I started having meetings with each player, as I'm used to. I still have other four or five players to talk to. Before my official talk with the whole team I want to know and talk to each of them.
"My impressions up to now are much above my expectations, I found a great enthusiasm in each of them.
The Italian also urged his team to fight for every point next season, and believes it his job to restore confidence in the side.
"I want a team that people enjoy watching, with a soul that never gives up. I can promise you that," he added.
"People are free to assess the potential of the team. It's my job to convince the players that we can win every game. The fans want to see a leader in charge of their team.
"Every game is worth three points. Further down the line we can see where we're at."
Mazzarri does not envisage many more signings following the arrivals of strikers Ishak Belfodil and Mauro Icardi from Parma and Sampdoria respectively, but confirmed he is looking at the possibility of signing a winger.
"Belfodil and Icardi? Inter have invested because they believe in them," Mazzarri continued. "Numbers-wise we have more than enough players in the squad.
"Perhaps we could do with another wide player."
