Toure: Liverpool one of the best clubs in England

2 July 2013 17:03

Kolo Toure has described Liverpool as "one of the best clubs in England" after signing a two-year deal on Tuesday.

The Ivorian centre-back has joined the Merseyside club on a free transfer, having run down his four-year contract with Manchester City.

And he has expressed delight over being able to remain in the Premier League, claiming to have joined one of its bigger outfits.

"This means a lot to me. Firstly, I'm joining one of the best clubs in England," he told the club's official website.

"When I left City it was important for me to stay in England because it's the best league - and to join Liverpool is massive for me.

"I chose Liverpool because of the history and because of the spirit of the team and the people here."

Toure made 18 appearances for City last term, largely serving as a back-up to Matija Nastasic and Vincent Kompany in defence.

The Ivory Coast international has won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during his time in England with both Arsenal and City.
