Oscar happy with Chelsea life

1 July 2013 13:00

Brazilian Oscar believes he has adapted well to life in the Premier League with Chelsea.

The midfielder arrived at Stamford Bridge last year from Internacional in a deal reported to be in the region of around £25million.

He enjoyed a spectacular first season with the club, making his mark on the Premier League and playing an integral role as they won the UEFA Europa League.

He appeared in 62 games for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring 12 goals - with a double against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League in particular earning him plaudits from the likes Gianluigi Buffon.

As he reflects on his start to life in England, the 21-year-old is happy with the way he has adapted.

"I used to watch English football on TV when I was younger in Brazil," he told The Green Soccer Journal. "I already knew it was a dynamic, competitive and fast way of playing. When I got here, I just confirmed all of that.

"I think I am already adapted to the English game."

Oscar's arrival saw him join a contingent of young Brazilian talent at Chelsea and the player stressed the importance of the likes of David Luiz and Ramires in helping him settle in to life in the English capital.

"Myself, David Luiz, Ramires and Lucas Piazon (currently on loan to Malaga) are very close to each other. I mean, really close indeed. We are building a strong friendship. Of course, this is quite helpful for all of us on and off the pitch.

"At least once a week, we have lunch or dinner together. Our families are always together as well. It is really important I have them around."

With the return of manager Jose Mourinho to Chelsea, Oscar will have to prove himself again next season if he is to retain his place in the starting XI under the Portuguese.

And he admits he will not be resting on his laurels as he seeks to improve his performances even further.

"I think my time in Chelsea has been great so far," he continued. "It is my first year in Europe and I was the player with (the) most appearances for the club, I think. I was involved in every single match. Not too bad for the first season, is it?

"My goals are to keep doing my job for Chelsea and improve what I’ve done until now. If I manage to play better and with the help of my team-mates, I think we can win many titles next season."
