In-demand Beckham talks up Premier League

17 January 2013 06:37

David Beckham says there is no bigger league than the English Premier League, as speculation rumbles on over his playing future.

Beckham, who ended his five-year stint with Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy in December, has been linked with a host of clubs throughout England, Europe and Asia.

The former Manchester United man has given few clues about his next destination but said people wherever he goes want to know about his decorated time in England.

"I have been lucky enough to have played with some of the biggest clubs in the world and in some of the best footballing countries in the world," the 37-year-old said.

"Wherever I have gone in the world whether it's Spain, Italy, Germany or America you begin to realise how big the Premiership is, you realise how big and important English football is.

"All that anyone wants to ask you and all anyone wants to know about is what the Premiership is like, what it's like to play for Manchester United, what it's like playing at Wembley.

"That's when you realise important English football is to the world."

Beckham, who also won titles with Real Madrid and AC Milan, scored 17 goals in 115 appearances for England.

"When we speak about playing for England and wearing the English shirt in front of a full house at Wembley, it's the proudest moment an English person can have," he said.

"Stepping out not just as an England player but as a captain of your country, for me it is the proudest moment that I have had in my career.

"I have achieved so many things over my career, I have been very lucky and have worked very hard to achieve what I have with Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and LA Galaxy, but stepping out with England, there is no prouder moment for me."

Milan are reportedly in the hunt to lure Beckham back to the San Siro, while other potential suitors include Paris Saint-Germain and Anzhi Makhachkala.
