Ben Arfa welcomes PSG link

14 January 2013 12:20

Newcastle United star Hatem Ben Arfa said he would be open to a move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The attacking midfielder joined Newcastle from French outfit Marseille on a four-and-a-half year deal in 2011, having initially linked up with the club on loan.

Ben Arfa has quickly established himself as one of the most talented players in English football but the 25-year-old, who is currently in France as he recovers from a hamstring injury, says a return to his native country would be an opportunity too difficult to pass up.

"Signing for PSG is a childhood dream," Ben Arfa told Le Parisien.

"If there is a proposal, I will study it with interest. If there is a proposal - 'if' is important.

"PSG... its sound lives in my heart. If I could play there, it will be a beautiful gift.

"PSG is a symbol in football. So, yes, PSG is a part of me. I had all the players' posters when I was little. Parc des Princes is 15 minutes from my house today."

Despite his apparent desire to make the switch to the French capital in the future, Ben Arfa maintains he is happy to stay at St. James' Park as the club looks to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

"I'm under contract with Newcastle and I am very happy," he said.

"Firstly, I must save my club (from relegation). Then once I have saved my club, you never know."

Newcastle's fortunes during this campaign have been invariably different to those of last season.

Alan Pardew's men have already lost leading striker Demba Ba to Chelsea during the January transfer window, while captain Fabricio Coloccini is reportedly seeking a return to Argentina.

On the pitch the team are also struggling, having won just two of its last eight games, but Ben Arfa, who is eyeing a return to action within the next month, is hopeful of playing a key role in ensuring their survival.

"I should be able to resume (playing) in mid-February," he continued.

"I rehabilitate from Monday to Friday at the medical centre at Clairefontaine. Morale is good because I'm in Paris and with family.

"But when I see the games on television, it is not easy. The team needs all its players."
