Hughton looks to strengthen attack

3 January 2013 03:20

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton plans to bolster his squad's strikeforce in the January transfer window.

Injuries to attacking players have caused Hughton problems in recent weeks.

The Canaries' first-choice striker Grant Holt has missed three of the past four matches after damaging his hamstring, while Steve Morison was also on the sidelines over the Christmas period.

Harry Kane is an option once again after recovering from the ankle injury which he sustained soon after joining on loan from Tottenham, but Hughton refused to go into detail over potential additions.

Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk, Hughton said: "Of course I've had a problem with Grant missing some games and Steve Morison also injured now.

"It's an area that of course we have looked at, but the best way of doing business is very much behind the scenes.

"We're working hard. There's no doubt about that. You hope you can be successful, but it's about making sure anything we do is right for this football club.

"We won't look to strengthen the squad in areas that aren't right for us. If we see there is an opportunity, and it's right, we'll endeavour to do it."

Up next for Norwich is a short trip to Peterborough in the FA Cup and Hughton thinks Holt may have a chance of being involved, but he does not expect Morison to be back in contention for a few more weeks yet.

He added: "Grant's very close. Stevie's (Morison) got a slight thigh strain which will certainly keep him out for a couple of weeks.

"Whether it will be longer than that we'll be able to determine over the next couple of days."
