Kashiwa clinch Emperor´s Cup title

1 January 2013 09:39

Kashiwa Reysol have qualified for the AFC Champions League after winning the Emperor's Cup final on New Year's Day.

Kashiwa earned their spot in Asian club football's premier tournament with a 1-0 win over fellow J.League club Gamba Osaka.

Despite failing to retain their Japanese title earlier in the season, a goal from Hirofumi Watanabe proved enough for Kashiwa to secure the trophy.

It has been a miserable year for Gamba, with the 2008 ACL champions relegated to Japan's second tier.

Kashiwa complete Group H in the continental event, joining A-League side Central Coast Mariners, Chinese Super League side Guizhou Renhe and K-League outfit Suwon Bluewings.

Kashiwa will begin their Asian campaign on February 27 with a visit to Guizhou Renhe.
