Mackie: QPR must win six-pointers

24 February 2013 18:24

Queens Park Rangers forward Jamie Mackie believes his side's results against the teams struggling with them will decide their fate.

Harry Redknapp's side remain rooted to the bottom of the English Premier League, sitting seven points from safety with only 11 games remaining this season.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United, Mackie has turned his attention to upcoming fixtures against Southampton, Wigan, Reading and Aston Villa.

"I think we were playing the champions, in my opinion," Mackie said after the defeat against the league leaders. "They are a top draw side and (Rafael) has scored a worldie.

"If he hadn't done that, maybe we were in the game. It's hard when we keep going 1-0 down and have to chase a game. It's tough.

"Next is Southampton and if we can get results against the teams in and around us it is almost like a double game."

The 27-year-old took some consolation in the fact that the margin between QPR and safety was not extended over the weekend.

"It is another game down, but no-one has stretched the margin. It's important for us to try and get a result, a few back-to-back results, so we could be in there," Mackie said.

"It is going to be hard but we've got to keep going, keep trying to play and get a result. That's all you can do."
